Scientists issued a warning over fizzy drinks, claiming that they cause a death toll of 184,000 adults every year and then people became a little bit cautious and to avoid these sugary drinks they started to avoid them, But these beverages companies are quite smart and they introduced some new form of drinks, like diet coke, diet Pepsi etc which has no sugar in it to attract those customers who were finding it difficult to avoid coke but because of health warnings they were avoiding it.
When taken at face value, diet soda seems like a health-conscious choice because it contains artificial sweeteners like aspartame which satisfy your urge for sugar without adding any calories. But there’s more to these chemical poisons than meets the eye.
Here are some reasons that why you should avoid soft drinks?
1)No Nutritional Value
Soft drinks and diet soda have no nutritional value and they are just composed of carbonated water, sugar, and some flavors that don’t contain essential nutrients like vitamins and minerals.
2) High Sugar Content
Soda has very high sugar content. A 12 oz (355 ml) can of Coke has 140 calories in total, all of which are from sugar. When we drink sodas, it causes our blood sugar to rise rapidly, which is then immediately converted into fat if the energy is not used. Unlike in fruits, sugar in sodas is all refined sugar without fiber to slow down the absorption. Taking in a large amount of sugar this way (such as via a can of soda a day), over time, then creates the risk of many health problems, such as obesity, increased blood pressure.
3) Increases Weight
One 330ml can of Coke contains around 140 calories. At a can every day, that’s 4,200 extra calories every month or 1.2lbs. That’s 50,400 extra calories or 14.4lbs in a year. Granted you will not gain an absolute 14.4lbs since our body metabolism adapts accordingly by burning more/fewer calories, but you clearly gain weight when you drink Coke/soda over healthier, lower-calorie options.
